Oscar Sunday

Oscar Sunday…the Red Carpet…and Prayer?

In 2004, Mastermedia’s inaugural National Media Prayer Breakfast (NMPB) dramatically expanded the mobilization of prayer for corporate media leaders. As a result of this dynamic gathering in Hollywood, a special media event was launched in 2011…a national network of concentrated prayer for Hollywood—on Oscar Sunday!

What if Hollywood’s biggest day of the year was also the Church’s biggest day of prayer—for media and entertainment?

What if millions of dollars promoting and covering the Oscar events and telecast were utilized by churches to call their congregations to pray for media?

What if church prayer groups, prayer chains, Sunday school classes, and congregations across the country and around the world prayed for media in one mighty unified chorus on Oscar Sunday every year?

On Academy Awards Sunday—February 27, 2011—the idea was launched as people all across the country participated in this special prayer event. They were invited to…

  • Make a special, personal effort to pray for media leaders, cultural influencers, and for believers they know in media on that day.
  • Ask God for ideas about how they might invite their church to pray for media on media’s big day. From announcements in the bulletin to prayer in Sunday school classes to pastoral staff modeling prayer for media, there are many ways to “capture” Oscar Sunday for prayer.
  • Pray for—and even “commission”—believers in their church fellowship who work in media and the arts, to be even greater salt and light in their company, profession and industry.

What if Academy Awards Sunday turned into the Church’s biggest day of prayer for media ever? It could happen! To get involved contact us at oscarsunday@mastermediaintl.org.
